Thailand

Known as the Land of Smiles, where vibrant street markets, ornate temples, and stunning beaches await, there is so much to do and see in Thailand during the early part of the year. In Bangkok, the bustling capital, dive into the vibrant chaos of Thailand's capital. Explore bustling markets, visit ornate temples like Wat Pho, and indulge in the diverse street food. 

If you have the time, we also recommend checking out Chiang Mai. You’ll be in northern Thailand, where you can explore ancient temples, participate in traditional festivals, and discover the local handicrafts.

We might be a little biased as some of our teammates just took a trip down to Guatemala. They experienced the rich tapestry of culture and history. One of the places our team went was Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its cobblestone streets and historic architecture.

We definitely brought our Fanny Packs with us as we explored lively markets, visited historic churches, and savored local cuisine. Luxurious boutique hotels like El Convento provide a romantic escape, while budget travelers can find comfortable hostels in the heart of the city.

We also picked visiting Tikal or Yaxhá if you wanted to go back in time to walk among towering pyramids and temples surrounded by lush jungle. For a unique experience, stay in eco-lodges near the ruins, offering both comfort and a connection with nature. 

Other top picks were visiting Lake Atitlán and enjoying activities like kayaking, hiking, and swimming, hiking volcanoes such as Pacaya and Acatenango or experiencing the natural beauty of Semuc Champey, a series of turquoise pools formed by natural limestone bridges.

Australia

Down under, Australia invites you to discover a diverse blend of experiences. Dive into the breathtaking underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef, where coral gardens and marine life will amaze you or sail through Whitsunday Islands near Airlie Beach in Queensland. You can even take time to explore the world’s oldest rainforest in Port Douglas, Queensland. The Daintree Rainforest is home to some of the most unique flora and fauna that you won’t see anywhere else in the world.

Immerse yourself in Melbourne's artsy culture, vibrant laneways, and diverse cuisine. Foodies won’t want to miss the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in March.

The Kruger National Park is another pick. A haven for wildlife enthusiasts, it promises unforgettable beauty and adventure. invites you on a safari adventure, encountering the untamed beauty of African wildlife. 

If you extend your stay a little longer into spring, you can attend the Franschhoek Literary Festival in May. The festival brings together writers, poets, and book lovers for discussions, book launches, and literary enjoyment.

Our neighbor to the south, Mexico is often thought of a quick trip for Californians. There is so much to see and do during the winter.
